Additional Notes

According to the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS), published October 2010, NCJ 231327, at Table 11, Percent of Violent and Property Crimes Reported to the Police, 2009, 48.6% of Violent Crime and 39.4% of Property Crime is estimated reported to police. At Figure 3, the rate of reporting of Violent Crime (approximately 50%) and Property Crime (approximately 40%) has remained fairly stable over the period 2000-2009.
A recent survey, February 2011, conducted by the New Orleans Crime Coalition of New Orleans residents found that of the 11% of respondents who reported yes to the question, “have you or a member of your household been the victim of a crime during the last 12 months,” of those respondents, 87% reported that the crime happened in Orleans Parish, and 82% responded yes to the question, “…did you report the crime to the New Orleans Police Department.” The same questions asked in the August 2010 survey demonstrated a 79% report rate to the New Orleans Police department.

Fairfax County police say a man is now suspected in nine cutting cases at retail stores in the area. All of the victims have been women in their late teens or early 20s. The man is believed to be using a box cutter or razor to slash the victims' buttocks.
